email Scams

On this page we list some of the more common email scams.  In all cases, the action is the same:

  • Do not open any attachments
  • Do not reply to it
  • Do not forward to email to anyone else, even if you are recommended to do so
  • Delete the message

In many cases if you take a key phrase from the email and enter into Google, you will find many similar or identical examples listed often going back over many years.

Domain Renewal Scam

If you receive a domain renewal notice from the 'Domain Registry of America' sent by post with option to pay by credit card, IGNORE IT. If you acknowledge it, you will be transferring ownership of your website address to their ownership, and they will then be able to charge you for the use of what you previously owned. If you then don't pay what they ask, they will be able to take down your website. More details.
