Business Services in or near Gloucester

Gloucestershire Gateway Limited is seeking to secure planning permission to build a motorway service area ('MSA') on both the north and south bound carriageways of the M5 motorway between Junctions 11a and 12, near Gloucester. The aim is to set new standards in the industry while offering local benefit through an innovative business model. It is proposed that the MSA will employ 300 people with an investment of around £35 million.

In line with the Highways Agency's objectives, the aim is to create a customer experience which will enhance and diversify existing MSA provision in the UK. The proposals are based on the model of Tebay Services on the M6 in Cumbria. There will be no franchises within the business; all food sold in the cafes will be high quality, fresh and made within the business and there will be a firm commitment to local sourcing.

The site and building design is unique to the constraints and opportunities afforded to it by the site and its surroundings. It contrasts totally with the more familiar and 'standard' design and layout solutions typical of many MSAs. Its design will ensure a high level of sustainability not generally found in this industry.

This project is a business/ charity partnership, originally identified to bring benefit to its local communities. The regeneration opportunity is substantial and sits at the heart of the project.
