Wyastone Summer Series - 5th Jul 2008
Two world-class line-ups of musicians will appear at the Wyastone Summer Series on Friday 4 July and Saturday 5 July when the critically-acclaimed London Winds and Kopelman String Quartet will be giving concerts. London Winds, led by clarinettist Michael Collins, will give an evening of summer serenades by Beethoven, Mozart and Robin Holloway. Their recent CD of Mozart’s epic Serenade in B flat, which they will be performing, has quickly established itself as an outright classic. The Russian-born Kopelman String Quartet has established an extraordinary reputation since their formation five years ago, attracting rave reviews from critics world-wide. Their concert on Saturday 5 July will precede a week of recording sessions for Nimbus Records and the concert will include music by Schubert and Shostakovich. There is also the intense cult-Piano Quintet by Mieczslaw Weinberg, written at the height of the Second World War, in which the Quartet is joined by the leader’s daughter, the pianist Elizaveta Kopelman. Both concerts start at 7.45pm at the Wyastone Concert Hall.
