Reciprocal Links?

We are all familiar with links on web pages - they are the means by which we find our way around the Internet from one site to another.  However, links are also important when using search engines such as Google.  Sites are ranked according the the number links that exist on other sites.  Thus the more Internet sites that have a link to the Tourism Association, the higher our site will be placed in the search results.

The Association lists the information for each of its members and provides a link to the member's own Internet site.  As well as directing potential customers to the member's site, it helps the member's ranking with the search engines.  In return, the Association expects each of its members to have a reciprocal link from their site to ours.  This arrangement of reciprocal links is very common and helps both parties for very little effort.

One of the conditions of membership of the Association is that members with Internet listings should  have a reciprocal link back to our site, www.wyedeantourism.co.uk.  Most sites are maintained by a professional webmaster who will be very familiar with this arrangement but if needed, further information can be provided by info@wyedeantourism.co.uk.

Examples

The following links take you to the websites of some members to show different examples of how reciprocal links can be implemented.

  • Use of the logo on the home page.  This is very simple and non-obtrusive; in addition, it demonstrates quality through membership of a trade organisation.
  • Things to do or the local area.  Many sites already include pages describing the area, activities and events and these are ideal for the link.
  • Dedicated links page.  This is probably the most common method of sharing links.  In this case the link to the Association is via the logo but it could have been a simple text links like most of the others on the site.
